After Dark Dallas Day 2

Day 2 was all shooting for Kevin. His bays didn’t start until aroun 8:30 so we watched around and got some video with some mentors and students and checked out some of the other mentors shooting.

We were walking around and caught the tail end of Brooke Shaden shooting. She had another mentor Lindsey Adler in the lake (cold!) Below is Kevin just hanging out with some other mentors and students and everyone huddled around to see what Brooke captured.

Before Kevin’s bay started I was watching a few other mentors speak. Below first is Don Chick talking the basics of lighting and how you can use just one large softbox and turn it into 4 lights. This guy is amazing with his lighting. He really knows his stuff! It’s pretty cool to watch how everyone else does it. Next is Laurent from Radio Poppers talk with people while (next) Damon Tucci is doing his thing in a bay.

Kevin’s first bay of the night was with Lindsey Adler and Chuck Arlund. It was a fashion based bay but in reality models were brought in and they had to shoot them regardless of what they were wearing. They got some pretty interesting outfits to photograph!

Next Kevin did a bay with Brian DeMint. It was awesome! The bay was all about lighting with whatever you can find. Kevin first started off with using the light from the screen of his iPad. Then he moved on to little LED flashlights. Brian used his chicken warmers lights and just a round tube light he got a Lowes.

Things then got weird and for some reason Brian had to shoot Kevin and myself.

After all the bays were done the real starts at After Dark. Kevin got a model and did some really great body shots. Although it turned more into a portrait session and he was grabbing people to shoot them. They turned out really great, we will post them later.

Today is the third and final day of After Dark Dallas. I won’t lie I am a little more than excited to get home and see my kitty Zoe. I will post more images from today when we get home!

After Dark Dallas Day 1

Today is technically day 2 of After Dark Dallas but I just wanted to share some images from yesterday. As I said before Kevin did a pricing and marketing pod which went amazing! His next pod was with Chuck Arlund and they did it on the basics of photography and your camera.

After Dark Dallas

We are at After Dark Dallas. Today is the first day and going great! Kevin had a huge group at his pricing and marketing pod. He also gave out free pricing calculators. It was awesome!

Yesterday (before After Dark even started) Kevin met up with some people to show them how to shoot using just natural light and using buildings as reflectors and such. I think it was really great. He also met up later when the light got a little nicer. (The sunsets here are SO amazing!)

Below are some images I took of Kevin showing people how to shoot using natural light.

Yesterday we had a quick tip with Kevin talking about advertising vs. portrait photography. He said he was going to show you the idea he had for the shoe client he was hopefully going to get. So as you can see below is the image Kevin took with the type under it. Now keep in mind this is not the final product. Kevin sent this with a few other shots put together to the art director to get his point across.

Advertising is a whole other beast compared to portrait photography but if it something you are interested it is well worth getting in to.
