Vacation Day 8

This is the longest I have gone without a camera since I was 17 years old. It’s also the longest I have been on vacation, and the longest time away from my kids.

I think going without the camera has been a great experience, as I am really starting to see thing for what they are.

I’m actually seeing beauty without having to capture it on anything except my brain. Being a visual person, this has actually been an interesting experiment. I am actually starting to feel like I need to shoot again. Look out world when I get back. I feel a big mind and image dump waiting to happen as soon as I get back.

Try recharging and put down your camera for a day, and just go for a walk.

Recharging

As a photographer, who loves to take pictures, it’s sometimes hard to recharge yourself.

For the first time ever, in my long career, I am taking a vacation without a camera!

I am in Hawaii for two weeks on vacation, and made the choice to not take a camera. What normally happens with me, is I spend so much time thinking about making images, that I forget to see and just enjoy. As a visual person, I am always looking for a cool shot, but by not taking a camera (except my iphone) I am actually noticing things that I wouldn’t have had I taken a camera.

I had the camera all packed and ready to go, but the morning of my trip I decided to leave “work” at home. I am so happy I did! I’m noticing things like birds singing and actually looking to see what type of bird it is, instead of stalking it to take a shot. I am noticing the amazing architecture of some of the older hotels, instead of worrying that part of it is in light and part is in shade.

I know when I get back, I will be ready to go with tons of new ideas. For the next two weeks, I will be relaxing and just enjoying life without the rectangular view!

Isaac Hers x Essie

Hey everyone. So a while back I was asked to be apart of the style series that this local clothing boutique does in town. Every month she has an awesome night of wine and food and invites around 5 of her loved customers to the store. You get your hair and makeup done and pick out an piece of clothing from her line Isaac Hers and you model it like a rock star. Well my images and interview are up and I couldn’t be happier!

Check it out here!!

What do all think?

Solorize It

Kevin has been on this kick with one of his presets and the images are looking amazing!!! Here are some portraits he shot at After Dark Dallas. He is also doing something new, when he shoots he is tethering straight to his computer, into Lightroom and the preset shows up right away. He is trying to go back to the days of film and doing everything in the camera and eliminating the post precessing.

Check out more of Kevin’s personal work at The Original Orange

Signing out,

Essie has her first tear sheet!

That’s right, my little Essie got published!

We did a shoot for Bowens lighting Litebook magazine, and Essie was shooting behind the scenes as she always does. Well they decided to run one of her images! Too bad I was in the shot, or she would be even happier.

Good for you Essie. You will always remember this day!
