After Dark Day 3

After Dark Dallas is done and we are home. Boy are we tired. It feels like we have been gone a month! Between WPPI and After Dark we are drained. None the less, we had an awesome time!

Day three of After Dark went really well! Kevin taught a on location shoot with Kevin Hudson (2 Kevins) all about shooting seniors outside. It was really cool, they showed everyone 2 different ways. Kevin Hudson uses scrims and reflectors and Kevin doesn’t, just shooting in open shade.

After the 2 Kevin shoot, Kevin and I headed over to Terri Trawick’s bay to see her teach about shooting boudoir. She is an amazing boudoir shooting and if you haven’t checked her out yet do it now! Also her husband Robert is a hoot!

Kevin’s final bay was beauty lighting. He got some AMAZING images! Not only with his camera but also with his iPhone! I posted some of the images from his iPhone so you could see. They are so amazing, he still shocks me with the things he can create.

I hope you all enjoyed the coverage from After Dark Dallas. If you havn’t checked out After Dark you really should. It is an amazing learning experience and even if you don’t feel you need to learn anything it is a great way to feel more creative.

We are excited to get back to normal on Monday. Look for some more images and videos to come!

After Dark Dallas Day 2

Day 2 was all shooting for Kevin. His bays didn’t start until aroun 8:30 so we watched around and got some video with some mentors and students and checked out some of the other mentors shooting.

We were walking around and caught the tail end of Brooke Shaden shooting. She had another mentor Lindsey Adler in the lake (cold!) Below is Kevin just hanging out with some other mentors and students and everyone huddled around to see what Brooke captured.

Before Kevin’s bay started I was watching a few other mentors speak. Below first is Don Chick talking the basics of lighting and how you can use just one large softbox and turn it into 4 lights. This guy is amazing with his lighting. He really knows his stuff! It’s pretty cool to watch how everyone else does it. Next is Laurent from Radio Poppers talk with people while (next) Damon Tucci is doing his thing in a bay.

Kevin’s first bay of the night was with Lindsey Adler and Chuck Arlund. It was a fashion based bay but in reality models were brought in and they had to shoot them regardless of what they were wearing. They got some pretty interesting outfits to photograph!

Next Kevin did a bay with Brian DeMint. It was awesome! The bay was all about lighting with whatever you can find. Kevin first started off with using the light from the screen of his iPad. Then he moved on to little LED flashlights. Brian used his chicken warmers lights and just a round tube light he got a Lowes.

Things then got weird and for some reason Brian had to shoot Kevin and myself.

After all the bays were done the real starts at After Dark. Kevin got a model and did some really great body shots. Although it turned more into a portrait session and he was grabbing people to shoot them. They turned out really great, we will post them later.

Today is the third and final day of After Dark Dallas. I won’t lie I am a little more than excited to get home and see my kitty Zoe. I will post more images from today when we get home!

apocalypse – behind the scenes

On Friday Kevin did this post apocalypse shoot. Well it was more of a test run, but none the less it was pretty awesome. Kevin met Tyler who is a set designer and does awesome work. He came up with the concept. You can check out is work HERE.  Cora modeled and it seems every time Kevin has shot Cora it is freezing cold out, raining and she has to wear next to nothing. Sorry Cora!

Below are some shots I took.

Below are more behind the scenes look.

Be on the lookout for the real shots from Kevin.
